Welcome,

We all know how important it is to keep our “Stash” at a level where we just don’t know which fabric to use first, last or in the middle.

And we all know how important it is to have those fabrics that we just can’t bear to put the cutter through.

So as not to disappoint you I have added some lovely fabrics to my stash and I am happy to share them with you!

There are some “soft and pretties” for those who like to keep it so…..and for those of you who just cant get enough of those “civil war and reproduction fabrics” then there is some for you as well.

soft and pretty

Now here is a sneak peek at what is coming later in the year….

“Historical Blenders” from Moda fabrics….this will be a must have range of fabrics in wonderful browns, yellow, rust reds, creams and blues for all of those reproduction projects.

(there are lots more fabric ranges to come but as yet not listed on the website…..

“Coming Soon”)…hopefully I will get this updated next week.

Also new for later in the year are these 3 beauties….

rich colours of reds, purples, blues, pinks, creams and yellows.

Just cant wait for these.

Just to share with you two images of when I was away for a few days last week in the Blue Mountains. What a majestic country we have, we are so lucky.

Off to Tocal this weekend.

I know the ladies are looking forward to it and so am I.

What a wonderful weekend everyone had. I for one am exhausted as I am sure all of the very industrious sewers also are.

A fab weekend was had by all  beginning on the Friday with many early arrivals at around 11.oo am and continuing into the early afternoon. Some of the ladies opted to get started with their stitching straight away whilst  some went down to the Patterson Pub for an enjoyable lunch.

The weather was warm and humid but the surrounding paddocks were lush and green from  the much needed rain we have had during the year.

Once settled into their rooms they were off and running.

This year we had new faces from the Wentworth Quilters, central coast, Newcastle and Berowra. Its always great to meet new people and make friends. With this comes seeing new projects that ladies are making or have made and so “show and tell” is always popular.

This very big quilt is on its way to Argentina as a wedding gift….Oh the lucky couple to be receiving this.

Robyn who was one of the new faces to our retreat this year was making this very attractive Court House steps quilt.

Jemmy from Wentworth Quilters was busy with her Wack and Stack

Judy with her pretty flannell quilt.

Now some of the ladies wanted to make a mystery quilt this year so armed with their instructions they set out and gathered their fabrics all so different from the ones that I chose and from each other also. Some were finished by the end of the weekend and others I am hoping we will see the finished images of soon…LOL

Shayne’s mystery quilt coming together very nicely. Shayne decided to change the rest of her quilt after this point and I cant wait to see the finished project.

Louise used some lovely French General fabric for her quilt,

Jo found some soft pinks and greens were working well together,

Sue had a great centre using an owl fabric with a very interesting mauve/grey fabric as her background for the pieced border,

Sue (kiwi) was well on the way to finished just as we were packing up on Sunday afternoon,

and unfortunately I dont have an image of Jacqui’s very soft and pretty blue and pink quilt with an embroidered centre piece so I am hoping that someone can get one to me so that I am able to share this with you.

And this is my effort. I just marvel at how we are all so diverse in the fabrics that we use and our choice of projects that we make.

And of course a big Thankyou to my friend Kim, who each year keeps breakfast, morning and afternoon tea happening for us all through the weekend.

I look forward to seeing everyone again in October 2012.

Where has the time gone? It seems like only a few weeks ago that I was letting everyone know the dates and information for Tocal retreat 2010 and here I am again talking about the retreat for 2011!

We always have a lovely time at Tocal. The location is just so relaxing, the companies great and the accomodation very comfortable.

This year we will be there over the weekend of October 28th – 30th and some ladies can’t wait to get there with bookings being made already.

Clare Cropano will be joining us this year with her magic fingertips. Clare is my massage therapist and works wonders on tired bodies. Bookings are essential if you would like to be pampered by Clare.

Last year some ladies requested a mystery quilt project for this year and I am hoping to have the quilt made and ready by then…LOL…it is still a mystery to me!

For further information on the retreat you can call me on 04 0042 0074 or email me at cherrypiedesigns@hotmail.com

I really despaired on Friday morning when I awoke to cold and wet weather here on the Central Coast but then soon remembered that I was off to Tocal for the annual Quilt retreat weekend. It rained all the way up the F3 but that deterred no one. The ladies began to arrive late in the afternoon after a lovely lunch in Morpeth and Maitland and were soon settled in their rooms. Before I knew it they were set up with their machines and sewing away!

There was of course the “machine” brigade ( the louder side of the room…LOL) and then the more sedate hand sewers. It doesn’t matter what you choose to do so long as you join in and have a good time.

This was a weekend of relaxation and fun. No stress to achieve or feel you have to finish your project. There were some UFO’s going on and new projects begun and almost finished.

Sue got straight into things on Friday night making a “Robot” for her grandson and had him finished by then end of the night!

What else did she have up her sleeve.?

There were some “Handy Hints” floating around……

And Maxine had a wonderful tip…..purchase a Parmesan cheese container with a flip top lid….consume the cheese and this makes a handy container to place you spool of thread into, thread the thread through the hole in the top of the container and then thread your needle. No more will your spool of thread spin away across the table from you.

This year we had a lovely lady from Sydney debut at Tocal with us…..Welcome Jo, and she shared her current project

that she is working on…Twelve Days of Christmas a pattern from Tita Leach.

After a fun Friday evening and off to bed we know we will awake to breakfast already waiting for us….courtesy of my friend Kim….many thanks for all your help.

Stay tuned for part 2…. works in progress and show and tell.
