Well lets just say that the first time I used this product I wasnt very impressed. I virtually destroyed my precious hexagon when trying to remove the papers. That was the end of that product for me until I decided to make my latest hexagon quilt and considered my options…..to baste or glue!
I then counted how many hexagons I was going to have to thread baste and the decision was then easy….just give the glue pen another go.
Through trial and error here are my tips for the easiest use of this product for which I can now not do without!
1. You only need a small amount of glue on the paper shape, dont be heavy handed. In one motion draw the glue stick across one straight section of the paper template.
2. Try to keep the glue off the edge of the paper where you will be stitching. As the glue dries and hardens it makes it difficult to push your needle through.
3. Allow the glue to dry COMPLETELY before trying to remove the paper.
4. Pressing. If you are making a hexagon lozenge for example that will later be appliqued onto a background fabric then I would suggest that you remove the papers from the fabric before spray starching and pressing the back of the lozenge. If you forget to remove the papers and press the lozenge with the papers still in place then wait until the glue is completely dry (about 1 hour or more) before trying to remove the papers.
